Lose It! is well liked: 4.8 stars from more than 783,000 ratings on the US App Store. But people searching for a Lose It! alternative usually have one specific reason, and in recent low reviews it's mostly money: a feature that used to be free now needs Premium, the upgrade screen keeps coming back, or a charge showed up they didn't expect.
The right replacement depends on which of those it is. So this page starts with what unhappy reviewers actually say, then puts Lose It! and Logma side by side, including the cases where Lose It! is the better pick.
Quick disclosure: I'm Batu, and I build Logma, a calorie tracker for iPhone that you talk to. So yes, I'm biased. Every fact about Lose It! below comes from its own App Store listing or from reviews there, and the links are at the bottom.
“Grilled chicken breast, a cup of brown rice and broccoli cooked in a teaspoon of olive oil.”
Example: Logma splits this into the chicken, the brown rice, the broccoli and the olive oil, and logs about 570 kcal with macros.
Why people leave Lose It! in 2026
Of the newest 1 and 2 star reviews on the US App Store we read in November 2026 (141 reviews), about 52% mention the paywall or features moving to Premium. A review can mention several things, so the shares overlap.
- The paywall, about 52%. Features that need Premium, or that used to be free and now aren't. Lose It's own listing puts barcode scanning, photo meal logging, AI voice logging and advanced tracking under Premium.
- Ads, about 22%. Including complaints about ads for other paid services showing up inside the app.
- Charged after a trial, can't cancel, refunds, about 17%.
- The barcode scanner, about 12%. This overlaps with the paywall complaints, since scanning is a Premium feature.
- The price, about 11%.
- Sync, Apple Health and login problems, about 10%.
- Crashes, bugs and lost data, about 8%.
Wrong food data came up in only about 3% of those reviews, and slow logging in about 1%. So people mostly aren't leaving because Lose It! counts badly. They're leaving because of how it asks for money. One App Store review sums up the mood: "The constant nagging for premium is out of control."
In Turkey, Lose It! has no Turkish interface, and in a much smaller set of 14 low reviews on the Turkish App Store, about 14% say local foods are hard to find.
Lose It! vs Logma
Here's the plain comparison. Lose It! details come from its US App Store listing as of November 4, 2026.
| Lose It! | Logma | |
|---|---|---|
| How you log | Search the food database. With Premium, also scan a barcode, snap a photo or say the meal | Say or type the meal in one normal sentence |
| Where the food data comes from | Lose It's database of foods and recipes | No database to scroll. Each item is estimated from what you said |
| Ads | Ads come up in about 22% of recent low reviews | No ads |
| Free version | Yes: calorie tracking, a weight loss plan and community support | No. The yearly plan starts with a 3 day free trial |
| Price | The App Store lists Premium purchases from $9.99 to $79.99, plus Premium Lifetime at $49.99 and $59.99 | $9.99 a month or $49.99 a year |
| Barcode scanner | Yes, with Premium | No |
| Turkish interface | No | Yes, English and Turkish |
| Best for | A free calorie counter, or scanning, photos and lots of health metrics in one app | Logging a meal in seconds without ads, if you're fine paying for it |
The App Store doesn't say which Lose It! price is monthly, yearly or an offer, so check inside the app before you pay. Also note that Lose It! Premium lists voice logging too. The difference is that in Logma, saying or typing the meal is the whole app, and it comes with every plan.
How logging works in Logma
Tap the mic and say what you ate the way you'd tell a friend, or type it. One sentence is enough, like the example at the top of this page.
Logma splits that sentence into items, estimates each one and logs the calories and macros in about 3 seconds. There's no database to scroll, no closest match to pick and no serving size to fix. If you know a weight, say it, like "150 grams of chicken". If you don't, leave it out and the estimate works from what you did say.
The part that matters most is the extras. Oil, butter, dressing and sauce are where a lot of missing calories hide, and a photo can't see them. When mentioning them costs you three words, you actually mention them. There's more on that in tracking calories without weighing food.
Logma knows dishes from everywhere, Turkish ones included, so a döner wrap or a lahmacun logs as easily as a burrito. The app works in English and Turkish.
What it doesn't do: Logma has no barcode scanner and no photo logging. If most of what you eat comes out of a package, scanning is still the quicker way to log it.
When Lose It! is the better choice
Lose It! is a solid app, and for some people it's the right one. Stay if one of these is you:
- You want to pay nothing. Lose It's free version includes calorie tracking, a weight loss plan and community support. Logma has no free version.
- You eat a lot of packaged food. Lose It! Premium scans barcodes. Logma doesn't.
- You want photo logging as well as voice. Lose It! Premium lists both.
- You track more than food. Premium lists blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, body measurements and sleep, and the app also has GLP-1 medication logging and an intermittent fasting schedule.
- You like doing it with friends. Lose It! lets you add friends and join support groups.
If you're leaving only because of the scanner paywall, Cronometer is worth a look: its App Store description says it scans barcodes for free. For the whole field side by side, see my comparison of calorie tracking apps in 2026.
How to switch without being charged again
About 17% of the low reviews we read were about trial charges, cancelling or refunds, so do this in order. If you pay for Lose It! Premium through the App Store:
- Open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions.
- Tap Lose It! and choose Cancel Subscription. Do it at least a day before the renewal date, not on the day. Apple's steps are here.
- Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription. Only cancelling does.
- If Lose It! isn't in that list, you probably paid on the company's website, and you cancel it there.
- If you were charged for something you didn't mean to buy, ask Apple for a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple explains how here.
Then start Logma's yearly plan with its 3 day free trial and log your normal meals for those three days. If it isn't for you, cancel it in the same Subscriptions screen before the trial ends.
Don't bother moving years of history over. Keep your calorie target if you trust it, or get a fresh number from the calorie calculator, and start clean on your next meal.
