Foodvisor alternative: what to use when the photos or the billing let you down

Short answer: if Foodvisor's photo AI keeps getting your meals wrong, switch to logging by sentence, where you say the oil and sauce a camera can't see. That's what Logma does. If you're leaving because you were charged and you'd rather not pay for any app, Logma isn't that: it has no free version, only a 3 day free trial on the yearly plan, so pick a free tracker like FatSecret. Either way, cancel in iPhone Settings first.

Logma logs a meal in 3 seconds. Say it or type it, it counts it. 3 days free on the yearly plan.

Start 3 days free

Foodvisor sells itself on speed: point the camera at your plate and the AI identifies the meal. In the US App Store it averages 4.6 stars from 18,268 ratings, and its listing calls it an App Store Editors' Choice.

Its low reviews tell a specific story, though, and it's mostly about money, not food. Below is what they say, what a photo can and can't do, and how to leave without another charge.

Quick disclosure: I'm Batu, and I build Logma, an iPhone calorie tracker you talk to. I'm biased, so every number here comes from the App Store, with sources at the bottom.

How it logs in Logma

“A chicken döner wrap with garlic sauce, a small side of fries and an ayran.”

Example: Logma splits this into the döner wrap, the garlic sauce, the fries and the ayran, and logs about 1,000 kcal with macros.

Why people leave Foodvisor

Of the newest 1 and 2 star App Store reviews we read in November 2026 (138 reviews from the US store), billing leads by a wide margin. One review can mention several themes.

  • Billing, about 41%. Charged after a trial, unable to cancel, or refused a refund. Some reviewers say they asked for a refund inside what they understood to be a 14 day window and didn't get one, and that support was a bot, not a person.
  • The paywall, about 29%. People say very little works without Premium, and some downloaded it expecting a free app.
  • Price, about 14%.
  • Wrong food data, about 12%, and the photo AI misreading food, about 9%. Reviewers say the recognition misses, fixing it by hand is clumsy, and the database feels smaller than in other apps. One App Store review: "The AI never gets anything right".
  • Crashes about 8%, sync and login about 7%, ads about 5%.

In the Turkish App Store, where Foodvisor has a Turkish interface, billing comes up in about 54% of 107 low reviews, and one reviewer there says a photo of a mixed fried plate came back as 100 calories.

Be honest about which of these is yours. If it's the charge and you'd rather not pay for any app, Logma won't help: it's a paid app too. If it's the photos getting your food wrong, keep reading.

Foodvisor vs Logma

Foodvisor Logma
How you log Take a photo for the AI to identify, speak, type with smart search, or scan a barcode Say or type what you ate in one sentence
Where the food data comes from Foodvisor's food database and photo recognition No database to scroll. The AI estimates each item from what you said
Ads Ads come up in about 5% of the low reviews we read No ads
Free version The listing sells a long list of Premium features, and reviewers say little works without Premium No. The yearly plan starts with a 3 day free trial
Price (US App Store) Premium listed from $23.99 to $83.99, plus a Premium Bundle at $29.99 $9.99 a month or $49.99 a year
Extras Vitamins and minerals, fasting programs, workouts, Apple Health sync, a seed you grow with daily quests Focused on logging: calories and macros for every item
Turkish Has a Turkish interface English and Turkish, and it knows Turkish dishes
Best for Photo logging, gamified habits and fasting programs Saying a meal, sauce and oil included, and having it logged

The App Store doesn't say which plan length each Foodvisor price covers, and two of the listings are named as Premium trials ($59.99 and $71.99). Read the paywall closely before you tap, and note when any trial ends.

What a photo can't see, and how Logma handles it

A photo app has to work out everything from what's visible. It can usually tell rice from pasta. What it can't know:

  • how much oil went into the pan
  • whether there's butter in the mashed potatoes
  • how much sauce is in a wrap, or what's rolled up inside it
  • whether the yogurt is full fat or light

Those hidden extras are often where a log comes out low. Logma works from a sentence instead. Say it or type it:

"A chicken döner wrap with garlic sauce, a small side of fries and an ayran."

Logma splits that into the wrap, the sauce, the fries and the ayran, estimates each one, and logs the calories and macros in about 3 seconds. You named the sauce, so it's counted. It knows Turkish dishes and portions, so döner, lahmacun or mercimek çorbası don't need a workaround.

Foodvisor lists voice and typing too. If those already work well for you there, the method isn't your reason to switch. And to be plain about Logma's limits: no photo logging, no barcode scanner, and the estimate is only as good as what you tell it. I went deeper on this in voice vs photo calorie tracking and in whether photo estimates from Cal AI are accurate.

When Foodvisor is the better choice

Foodvisor does several things Logma doesn't. It's the better pick if:

  • You prefer pointing a camera. If your meals are simple and visible, photo logging is quick, and Logma doesn't do it.
  • You want vitamins and minerals. Foodvisor tracks micronutrients, with full meal analysis in Premium.
  • You like being nudged. The seed you grow with daily quests, plus a community, are built to bring you back every day.
  • You fast or work out. Premium includes intermittent fasting programmes and workout sessions.
  • You scan packaged food. Foodvisor has a barcode scanner.

How to cancel Foodvisor and ask for a refund

Since billing is the top complaint, do this part carefully.

  1. Cancel first. On iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, tap Foodvisor, then tap Cancel Subscription. If there's no Cancel button, or you see an expiration message in red, it's already cancelled. Apple's steps are here.
  2. Deleting the app does not cancel. The subscription keeps renewing until you cancel it in Settings.
  3. Not in the list? You may have paid another way. Apple's advice is to check your bank or card statement to see who bills you, then cancel with that company.
  4. Ask Apple for the refund. If you paid through the App Store, go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, choose "I'd like to", then "Request a refund", pick a reason and the subscription. Apple says to wait 24 to 48 hours for an update. It approves or declines each request, so a refund isn't automatic (Apple's refund steps).
  5. Before your next trial, set a reminder. Apple's guidance is to cancel at least 24 hours before a trial ends if you don't want it to renew. Logma's yearly plan has a 3 day free trial, so if you're not sure yet, put a reminder on day 2.
  6. Keep your target. Write down your calorie goal, or get a fresh one from the calorie calculator.

FAQ

Is there a free Foodvisor alternative?

If you want a free app, pick one with a free tier, such as FatSecret, which describes itself as free. Logma has no free version. The yearly plan starts with a 3 day free trial, then it's $49.99 a year, or you can pay $9.99 a month.

How much does Foodvisor Premium cost?

The US App Store lists Foodvisor Premium purchases from $23.99 to $83.99, including two Premium trial listings at $59.99 and $71.99, plus a Premium Bundle at $29.99. The listing doesn't say which plan length each price covers.

Can I get a refund for Foodvisor?

If you paid through the App Store, refunds go through Apple, not the app. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple reviews each request and says to expect an update in 24 to 48 hours.

Does Logma log food from photos?

No. Logma logs from a sentence you say or type, so you can include the oil, the sauce and what's inside a wrap, which a photo can't show.

Does Logma understand Turkish food?

Yes. It knows Turkish dishes and portions, like döner, lahmacun, mercimek çorbası and ayran, and the interface is in English and Turkish.

Is Logma available on Android?

Not yet. Logma is on iPhone with iOS 17 or later, and Android launches on November 14, 2026.
